At our dental practice, we believe in maintaining not just your teeth but your entire oral health. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive care to ensure your gums remain healthy.

What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease typically results from poor oral hygiene, which allows plaque — a sticky film of bacteria — to build up on the teeth and harden. In its early stage, known as gingivitis, gums can become red, swollen and bleed easily. If not addressed, it can progress to periodontitis, a more severe form that can damage the soft tissue and bone supporting your teeth.

Our Approach to Treating Gum Disease

At our practice, we take a proactive and personalized approach to treating gum disease. Our goal is to restore and maintain your oral health through a variety of treatments tailored to your specific needs.

  1. Professional Cleaning: This is the first step in treating gingivitis. We will remove plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline of all your teeth. If your condition is mild, this might be all you need.
  2. Scaling and Root Planing: For more advanced cases, we may recommend a deep-cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing. This non-surgical treatment involves cleaning between the gums and teeth down to the roots.
  3. Antibiotic Therapy: Sometimes, we use antibiotics to help control bacterial infection. These can be topical, applied directly to the gums or oral.
  4. Surgical Treatments: In severe cases of periodontitis, surgery might be necessary. Procedures like flap surgery or bone and tissue grafts can help restore the supportive structures of your teeth.
